There has been speculation over the past few weeks that there could be a potential delay to the release of Grand Theft Auto V for PC users, and today, it was confirmed that was indeed the case. We were promised system requirements before Christmas, and we got them today, but they came with an unfortunate delay to the release.

The official date of launch is now March 24th, after it was originally expected in Fall 2014, and more recently, 27th January. There have been various different users getting worried about the fact that with just three weeks until release, we hadn't really heard a peep out of Rockstar regarding PC specifics.

Writing on the Rockstar Newswire, Rockstar said that moving a release date is never a decision they "take lightly."

Our apologies for the slight shift in the date but the game requires a few extra weeks of testing and polish to make it as good as can be. Moving a release date is never a decision we take lightly and is a choice we make only when we know it is in the best interests of the game and our fans. Thanks everyone for your understanding and we assure you these few extra weeks will be worth it when the game does arrive in March.

There will also be a new editing tool for the PC version of the game, known as the Rockstar Editor. The editor will give players the "full suite" to edit and upload videos to YouTube and Rockstar Social Club, right from the game.

You can expect to see up to 30 players on GTA Online, which is the equivalent to the PS4/XBONE and will also receive the GTA Heists from launch. Finally, we have the system requirements that we were promised before Christmas, which are surprisingly not as high as expected, other than the HDD space requirements.

Minimum specifications:

  • OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2 (NVIDIA video card recommended if running Vista OS)
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz
  • Memory: 4GB
  • Video Card: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB / AMD HD 4870 1GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)
  • Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
  • HDD Space: 65GB
  • DVD Drive

Recommended specifications:

  • OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)
  • Memory: 8GB
  • Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD7870 2GB
  • Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
  • HDD Space: 65GB
  • DVD Drive

It is a major bummer that we've got to wait until March now to get our hands on the PC version so hopefully it is worth the wait. Rockstar were ridiculed for Grand Theft Auto IV not being very PC optimized so I hope the same doesn't happen with GTA V.

I imagine that a lot of you aren't happy with this delay so let us know what your thoughts are on the situation!

Cheers, GameSpot
