After it was announced yesterday that Hotline Miami 2 had been banned in Australia, one of the designers has stepped forward and told those that would be affected to pirate the game.

Devolver Digital released a statement about the ban yesterday, saying that offending material had been misrepresented. A concerned fan then got in touch with lead designer Jonatan Söderström and posted their response on reddit's /r/PCMasterRace.

Soderstrom's response was very simple and basically told them to just pirate the game if they do end up being affected by the ban.

If it ends up not being release in Australia, just pirate it after release. No need to send us any money, just enjoy the game!

Those of you that wish to support the developers despite the ban obviously know of other methods to get the game digitally without having to pirate it, so it is up to you. There are currently no plans to alter the offensive material in any way to change the decision of the classification board.

Though we have no plans to officially challenge the ruling, we stand by our developers, their creative vision for the storyline, its characters and the game and look forward to delivering Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number to fans very soon

So there you have it. If you're Australian and affected by the Hotline Miami 2 ban, feel free to pirate the game with the blessing of the lead designer it seems.

Cheers, PC Gamer
