Update: Rockstar have now released a trailer for the new Heists mode, which you can watch via the "related video" link above.

Rockstar Games have announced today the release date for GTA Online Heists, something which was promised over a year ago when the game originally released.

They are expecting to be able to release the Heists mode for GTA Online in "early 2015," which is around the time the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V releases. The update is set to bring 20 more hours of gameplay as well as new vehicles and weapons.

An interview with IGN revealed the details about the heists mode, stating that there will be "five unique strands" and around 20 hours of gameplay split across 20 missions.

Lead mission designer Imran Sarwa said that if they delay something it's because "it's not at the level we expect of ourselves."

We never want to have to move a date but if something is delayed, it’s because it’s not at the level we expect of ourselves. And while we’re not there yet, we’re getting close and Heists will be ready early in 2015.

The concept of the new heists gamemode will be similar to the main Grand Theft Auto 5 game, with prep work and a grand finale.

A series of multi-tiered missions featuring diverse prep work, a range of different types of gameplay and a big finale, where team coordination and playing your own distinct role could make the difference between success or failure. We also wanted each one to have a unique thread that brought you back in touch with some of the characters from the story.

To be able to take part in the heists you will need to find four players who are all over level twelve in GTA Online. The leader of the heist will require a high-end apartment to plan the heist and will be contacted by Jester when a heist becomes available.

The leader of the heist will then pay up front for the cost of the mission, then the other three members of the team will be paid per section of the mission. The heist leader will get the final payout once the heist has been successfully completed.

You will be able to pick up new vehicles, weapons, items and clothing during the duration of the heist as well as visiting surprise locations and familiar faces from the main story line.

Thanks, VG24/7
