Microsoft have announced that Windows 8.1, the first major update to Windows 8, will begin rolling out in October.

The rollout will begin at 12am on October 18th in New Zealand, with other markets receiving the free download after that.

Windows 8.1 includes updates to personalization, Internet Explorer 11, Bing-powered search, built-in apps and cloud connectivity via Skydrive.

They will also be including Skype with 8.1, replacing the Windows 8 messaging application. The start button will be making a return, as well as a boot to desktop feature.
